The Sri Chinmoy 3100 Mile Self-Transcendence Race

The Sri Chinmoy 3,100 mile race is held every year in New York. I’ve never been part of it – only admiring from a distance, but this is a good, short insight into some of the aspects of the race.

I organise a couple of 2, 3 and 4 mile races for Sri Chinmoy A.C. in Oxford. We get a good turnout from local runners, who appreciate the chance to run around the Peace Mile in Cutteslowe Park, Oxford.

Still, it’s a bit easier than the logistics of organising a 3100 mile race!

Soul-birds by Sri Chinmoy

From 1991 to 2007, Sri Chinmoy drew millions of soul-birds. He began drawing these unique creations whilst on a visit to Malta. Sri Chinmoy also termed them ‘Dream-Freedom Peace-Birds’

When signing his name, Sri Chinmoy often added these spontaneous bird drawings. In Oslo 2001, I bought a book from a Norwegian Bookshop. It was beautifully signed by Sri Chinmoy with his name and also two small birds. The book was a Norwegian translation of “Wings of Joy”, but it was worth it just for the artwork.

On some occasions, you were able to buy original soul-birds and I took the opportunity whenever I could.

These are some soul-birds from my own personal collection.

CKG is how Sri Chinmoy signed  his artwork. It stands for his full name: Chinmoy Kumar Ghose

The logo on the top left of this website is Sri Chinmoy’s own handwriting. Here he wrote my spiritual name ‘Tejvan’ with two customary soul-birds either side. …

Challenging Impossibility.co.uk 2012

The film Challenging Impossibility is coming to Bristol in March 2012.

It will be an exciting exhibition of Sri Chinmoy’s weightlifting equipment, with also several screenings of the film Challenging Impossibility.

I was once lifted by Sri Chinmoy, (a relative meagre 135lbs). In the above photo, Sri Chinmoy is lifting 200lbs with each hand from a seated posture. This 400lb lift was during a long weightlifting exhibition in New York, I was also lucky enough to attend. There was perhaps 500 people in the room, watching the 70 year old Sri Chinmoy, lift weights which really defied his age and build.
